On Monday, Momiji Nishiya received a gold reward in the women’s competition, which took place in Tokyo for the first time. As a result, a 13-year-old Japanese skateboarder became one of the youngest Olympic gold medalists. This caused the fate of her country, following Yuto Horigome’s triumph in the men’s competition which happened the day before.
After the victory in an almost deserted park, the girl cried with happiness.
Nishiya finished her last three tricks and got a high result, beating her rival from Brazil, who is also only 13 years old.
Interestingly, more than half of the women participants in the final competition were teenagers. Nishiya and Rayssa Leal from Brazil are now considered the youngest medalists in their home countries.
