The organizers of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing decided to continue the tradition of giving condoms to the athletes. The decision was made despite detailed social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

Guests are given 5 condoms each in a colorful package, decorated with Chinese lanterns. Such gifts were found by journalists in the hotel rooms.

Athletes, within the framework of anti-coronavirus restrictions, are allowed interactions such as handshakes and hugs, while at the same time, participants in the games must maintain a social distance of at least 2 m.

Due to social distancing rules and other anti-coronavirus measures, more than 15,000 condoms were planned to be distributed to athletes.

Condoms began to be distributed to Olympic Games participants in 1988 as part of educating people about HIV and AIDS. The International Olympic Committee agreed to continue such an action.
