Seven-time Formula 1 champion British Lewis Hamilton and former world number one American Serena Williams have entered into a bid to buy Chelsea. The football club was owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The sports legends plan to invest £10m each, for a total deal of £2.5bn. The association is led by former Liverpool president Martin Broughton and also includes the head of the World Athletics Association, Sebastian Coe.

It is planned that Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, an investment company headed by Americans Josh Harris and Dave Blitzer, will own a controlling stake. Now they already own the London football club Crystal Palace. There is information that before the purchase, Harris and Blitzer will also have to give up their stake in the club of the English Premier League.

Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea. After UK authorities imposed sanctions on seven Russian businessmen in March, banning them from entering the UK and freezing their assets. At the same time, the English Premier League removed Abramovich from the management of the football club, which he has owned since 2003.
