The 19-Year Athlete From America Set a New National Record. Athing Mu Took the Gold

Athing Mu, 19, Becomes First American Woman to Win Olympic Gold in 800M Since 1968

This year, the athlete from America, Athing Mu, participated in the Olympic Games for the first time. And the American, who is 19 years old, managed to win a gold prize during the final race of 800 meters among women.

Setting a national record of 1 minute and 55.21 seconds, Mu went down in history as the first American woman who won this distance since 1968. Then the event took place in Mexico City.

Another Mu’s teammate also made her first Olympics. Raevyn Rodgers took bronze with a personal best of 1 minute and 56.81 seconds. Meanwhile, British runner Keely Hodgkinson set the national record with 1 minute and 55.88 seconds.
