Russian and Belarusian Tennis Players Won’t Participate in Wimbledon This Year

Tennis players from Russia and Belarus won’t take part in the tournament in Wimbledon this year. Due to the war in Ukraine, the organizers of the tennis tournament have announced the news.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club reported that it has to limit Russia’s global influence by any means.The announcement said that the Russian regime cannot be allowed to benefit from the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes due to the unjustified and unprecedented military aggression.

This is the first time that a tennis tournament imposes restrictions on Russians and Belarusians. To remind you, Wimbledon is one of four Grand Slam tournaments. The organization also added that players from Russia and Belarus can still participate in ATP tournaments under a neutral flag.

Minister of Sports of Great Britain Nigel Huddleston made the proposal to remove Russian tennis players from participation in the Wimbledon tournament last month. Belarusian tennis players were also suspended from participation in the tournament earlier.
